Revolutionary era Manuscript Document dated 12 March 1776. This is an order to pay Nathaniel HIBBERD £3.10 shillings for "...boarding and tending..." John WILLSON a sick soldier of the Connecticut troops. Signed by committee men Oliver ELLSWORTH (later US Supreme Court Chief Justice) and T. SEYMOUR and Connecticut Treasurer John LAWRENCE. Signed on the reverse by Nathaniel HIBBERD (signed "Nat Hebard"). Also lists the name of Capt. James HUNTINGTON on the reverse. (ref. 76-0324)

 

Revolutionary era Manuscript Document dated 4 April 1776, Hartford, Connecticut. This is an order to pay Capt. Issac COOK, Paymaster of the 7th Company, 1st Regiment (Connecticut) £887.18 shillings. Signed by committee men Eze.WILLIAMS and T. SEYMOUR. Addressed to Connecticut Treasurer John LAWRENCE. Signed on the reverse by Issac COOK. (ref. 76-0418)

 

Revolutionary era Manuscript Document dated 20 April 1779, Hartford, Connecticut. This is a list of payments for supplies given to soldier families of Weathersfield, CT . Lists the following names; Eb. DAVIS, Sgt. Moses LOCKWOOD, Chris KILBY, C**** CRANE, Enoch STODARD, Sgt. Daniel WILLIAMS, Asher RUSSELL, Nathaniel WHITTIER, Sgt. Jim GRIFFIN, Eb. STODDARD, Lt. John RILEY, Ensign Benjamin HUTON(?), Capt. Ed. BULKLEY, Abn. BLIN, Ed. BROWN, Justus BLIN, James CLARK. Signed by James ROBBINS, selectman. (ref. 79-0426)

 

Revolutionary era partially printed Manuscript Document dated 22 March 1782, Hartford, Connecticut. This is an order to pay Capt. Samuel GRANGER, £70.20 shillings. Signed by committee man Finn WADSWORTH. Addressed to Connecticut Treasurer John LAWRENCE. Signed HUNTINGTON across the face of receipt (probably James HUNTINGTON). Signed on the reverse by Elihu WILLIAMS. (ref. 82-0346)

 

Partially printed Military Appointment dated 27 April 1810, Albany, New York. Appointment of "Thomas HATHAWAY Major Commandant of the Battalion of Militia in the County of Ontario lately commanded by Major FRENCH" Signed by Governor Daniel D. TOMPKINS (later Vice-President under Monroe) and Daniel HALE, Secretary. Docketed on the reverse by Myron HOLLEY, Clerk. (ref. 10-0477)

 

Partially printed Land Grant dated 08 August 1818, Washington, DC. Grants tract of land in Zanesville (Ohio) to "Emanuel MILLER Assignee of Yost MILLER" Signed by President James MONROE and Josiah MEIGS, Commissioner of the General Land Office. (ref. 18-0870)

 

Partially printed tax receipt dated 25 September 1857, Portland, Oregon. Receipt issued to James GARRETT for payment of $5.90 in City and School District taxes for the year 1857. Signed by Thomas J. HOLMES, Tax Collector/District 1. (ref. 57-0941)

 

Civil War era letter with patriotic vignette, 14 February 1862, from Union soldier in Cairo, Illinois. Jones ROGERS writes to his brother, John ROGERS, and sister in Tranquility (Adams County), PA. Discusses current events in camp, including the battles at Roanoke Island, Fort Hatteras and Bolling Green. Mentions that "...Sam KIRKPATRIC is sick..." due to excessive alcohol consumption. (ref. 62-0278)

 

Partially printed Land Grant dated 21 March 1898, Washington, DC. Indicates that full payment has been received on a tract of land in St. Stephens, Alabama by James POGUE of Clarke County (Alabama). Signed by President William MCKINLEY (secretarial signature) and F.M. MCKEAN. (ref. 98-0332)
